 The Pond of
Araruama debugged during years, gratuitously,
tons of sewer that were in her thrown.
However, in the last years, it began to
present an eutrofization picture: excessive
production of algae fed by the nitrogen and
match originating from the sewer. With the
beginning of the performance of the
Consortium, integrating city halls, State and
ngo's, two fundamental actions began to be
made possible: the interruption of the sewer
that arrival at the Pond, and the dredge for
renewal of the waters.
For the
interruption of the sewer spilling in the
Pond, the Consortium insisted in the
modification of the Concession’ contracts of
the companies Prolagos and Águas de
Juturnaíba, that privileged the increase of
the distribution of water without investments
on a short period in sanitary sistem. Starting
from the re-pact of the contracts, since the
year of 2002 it has been built in the cities
assisted by the Concessionarys, Stations of
Treatment of Sewer, pump stations and a system
for interception of the sewer that today
arrives directly at the Pond bt the systems of
rain drainage.
This action
will remove about 75% of every sewer that
today reachs the Pond, being treated about 600
liters of sewer per second, which represents
six thousand of pipe-car whit sewer that won’t
spilling more the Pond of Araruama.
 In the
Hydrodynamic’Studies, it was verified that the
renewal of the waters inside the pond was
committed, indicating the urgent need of
dredge actions in Itajuru’ Channel and in
other points of the pond. The studies
demonstrate that if these action were not
taken, the pond was able to in few years get a
subdivide in several small ponds. As the only
connection betwen the Pond and the sea, the
Itajurú’ channel is the responsible for the
renewal of the waters inside the Pond and the
circulation of fish.
Aiming at the
immediate beginning of this work, the
consortium looked for a solution which not
depend on public budgets.
Like this, the
dredge was begun in the Itajurú’ channel under
the responsability of SERLA, counting with the
financial and operational support of the
Conpania Nacional de Alcalis and of the City
halls that are around the Pond.
Una river
 The Una river
is one of the rivers of the area that is not
more perennial in spite of giving name to the
basin.
With this
carcteristic, problems as the progress of the
saline language turning inappropriate waters
for the consumption and for the agriculture.
The Project of
Revitalization of Una river consists to turn
possible the conduction of the treated sewer
of the Treatment’ Stations of Sewer of Búzios,
Cabo Frio, São Pedro da Aldeia, and Iguaba
Grande for streams and rivers, that will lead
them to the Una river by gravity.
This project
besides propitiating an environmental earnings
for the Pond of Araruama, that won’t receive
that volume of fresh water, will solve the
problem of lack of fresh water at Una river,
still allowing the accomplishment of
irrigation projects at rural areas,
facilitating actions as the project
“frutificar” of the Government of the
State.
